The Ebb & Flow Approach
female-focused | hormone-informed | cycle-synced
The Goal
To optimize women's mental health treatment plans by integrating them with a routinely overlooked determinant of women's mental health and wellbeing: their menstrual cycle.
The Reason
Simply put, hormones are powerful drivers of wellbeing, and for most women who menstruate, they will typically fluctuate significantly within a 28(ish)-day cycle.
These fluctuations have the power to affect mood, energy, cognitive capabilities, and physical performance: quite literally, they can influence how we view and respond to ourselves, others, & the world around us.
This also means that hormonal fluctuations can influence the way that menstruating women respond to therapy during any given phase of their cycle.
The E&F Difference
All Ebb & Flow treatment plans offer cycle tracking and therapeutic cycle-syncing services for menstruating women who would like to implement this approach.
This feature allows for the creation of highly personalized treatment plans: by closely monitoring your cycle, hormonal fluctuations, and any associated symptoms, we can better select and implement therapeutic approaches and interventions that are in alignment with the phase that you are in at the time of therapy.
The result? Highly tailored & thoughtfully optimized care that works from a place of internal flow to approach your mental wellbeing.
What to Expect
For women who would like to incorporate this menstrual-informed approach into their treatment plan, you can expect a therapy experience that includes:
->Complementary & collaborative cycle tracking & symptom mapping
->Identification & exploration of your unique trends, triggers and supports
->Personalized treatment strategies & interventions designed to work with your cycle to achieve your mental health goals

->Developing strategic, cycle-synced skills for maintaining mental wellness beyond therapy
An Important Note
Mental health is a complex construct, and it cannot be reduced to hormones alone.
For the 70-90% of menstruating women who experience symptoms associated with their cycle, however, this added layer of context is key for understanding and approaching their mental health & wellbeing; this is the gap that the E&F approach passionately aims to address.
For women who do not experience a menstrual cycle: the E&F approach simply adds a further layer of context to mental health treatment plans where applicable - an active menstrual cycle is not required to receive support. At Ebb & Flow, your care will always be tailored to your unique needs.
